What's Your Itinerary?
Feb 14, 2014
Just about every time I’ve talked to anyone about this wonderfully exciting trip of ours, one of the first questions is, “So where are you going?!” I’ve answered it in many different ways, but it really comes down to this:
We really have no idea!
That’s the great part about this trip. We really have no idea where we will be and when. Yes, we have a general idea of where we want to go and the things we’d like to see, but we’re not committed to one place or another for any given amount of time*. We could be in one location and really love it and decide that we want to stay longer. Or we could be in another location and really not care for it much and decide to leave sooner than expected. Or we might meet some cool people along the way who invite us along to their next destination. The wind truly is our guide.
This is where I tend to lose a lot of people. Most people can only comprehend the idea of being in a certain place at a certain time for a given amount of time. And that’s simply because that’s all that they know. It’s called a vacation. We’ve all been on them, but it’s always a planned thing, whether it’s planned weeks out or years out. It’s the only thing that the we’ve known either. So it will be a learning experience for all of us too.
And being the planner that I am, it will definitely be a learning experience for me!
So what’s our general itinerary? Roughly stated, here it is:
- Mexico
- Central America
- South America
- Australia
- Southeast Asia
- India
- Eastern Europe
- Western Europe
We’re estimating that this will take us anywhere from 1.5 - 2 years to complete, or until we get tired of it, or until the money runs out.
*We have the first 2 months or so roughly mapped out because Teague is getting certified as a PADI Dive Instructor! So that required some planning, and we will be staying in Honduras for an extended period while he completes his training!
Where will we stay?
Well, for the most part, we will likely be staying in hostels as they are the cheapest. However, we have also had many conversations with friends who have friends or family in one destination or another who would be willing to take us in as well. Lastly, we will also be looking at Couchsurfing and AirBnB as options as well.
Do you know know someone living somewhere on my list? Do you think they would be willing to take in 4 travelers? We would love to hear from you! Leave a comment below or e-mail me with the details!
Did you have an exceptional time in one of the locations on my list? I’d love to hear about that as well! We are always looking for great suggestions on places to see, so share away down in the comments!
Roam on!
